Laboratory of Information Communication Networks

Nobuaki Otsuki
graduated from the Laboratory of Information Communication Networks in the 2008 academic year

In the Laboratory of Information Communication Networks, it is possible to learn the manufacturing process of most-advanced wireless communication systems. I thought that wireless communications would become more important, so I chose the Laboratory of Information Communication Networks, where general wireless communications can be studied and researched.

Q1What did you learn in the laboratory? What do you think is helpful for your current job?

In the Laboratory of Information Communication Networks, it is possible to learn the manufacturing process from examining methods of creating the most advanced wireless systems using simulations to their LSI implementation and doing experiments, that is, “formulation of an algorism ⇒ evaluation using simulation ⇒ actual manufacturing ⇒ evaluation of an actual product ⇒ completion,” and this is actually performed by various manufacturers and research institutions. At that time, I mainly examined methods using simulation. The simulation building technology and the knowledge of signal processing I learned through that work are very helpful now. In the Laboratory of Information Communication Networks, it is also possible to acquire knowledge about actual hardware. Since consideration of hardware is very important when one examines manufacturing methods, knowledge of hardware is one of the good things I have learned in the laboratory.

Q2Why did you choose this division and this laboratory?

As I mentioned before, it is possible to learn the manufacturing process of the most advanced wireless communication systems in the Laboratory of Information Communication Networks. I thought that wireless communications would become more important, so I chose the Laboratory of Information Communication Networks, where general wireless communications can be studied and researched.

Q3Your future goal and a message for your juniors

I hope that you will focus on learning basic knowledge and technologies at the university laboratories, rather than aiming at short-term accomplishments. I think that the knowledge you accumulate in university will flower once you are employed or proceed to a doctoral degree program.
