Graduate Questionnaire

Laboratory of Media Dynamics

Hirofumi Kon
graduated from the Laboratory of Media Dynamics in 2006.

I chose the Laboratory of Media Dynamics because I was interested in images and video, and wanted to particularly research soccer video. Another reason was that students had many opportunities to make presentations.

Q1What did you learn in the laboratory? What do you think is helpful for your current job?

Firstly, it is the attitude toward or way of thinking about research. Your attitude or way of thinking is the most important element when you tackle a task, whatever it is. I now think it was very useful for me to have learned that in school.
Secondly, I acquired extensive knowledge. The Laboratory of Media Dynamics covers a broad range of research themes. I acquired extensive knowledge through seminars and daily discussions in the laboratory.

Q2Why did you choose this division and this laboratory?

I chose the Laboratory of Media Dynamics because I was interested in images and video and wanted to particularly research soccer video. Another reason was that students had many opportunities to make presentations. As a result, I conducted research on soccer footage analysis, and through many presentation opportunities I grew a lot. I really appreciate it.

Q3Your future goal and a message for your juniors

This is vague, but my goal is to conduct research and development of technologies and services that help people. To do so, I think it is necessary to improve my technical ability and build a network of extensive contacts in Japan and elsewhere. I hope that you students will have a big dream and accept many challenges. What you experienced as students will form your foundation as members of society.
