A year of societal involvement
Organizing, editing, chairing, connecting...
This year I decided to put some more effort in networking and working for the societies I am involved with. HLAI (Human-Level AI) conferences gather communities of BICA (Biologically Inspired Cognitive Architectures) and AGI (Artificial General Intelligence).
I couldn't miss the opportunity this time to meet my friends at Prague (and make new ones).
But the real hard work was to be an editor for AGI, where authors send papers on a variety of topics from machine learning to philosophical issues. It was hard but fulfilling, thanks for Ben Goertzel for inviting me, Mattand Arthur for nice teamwork. Patrycja (my PhD student) has given a nice talk and some head-hunters kept approaching her during coffee breaks.
As always both conferences were full of controversies and interesting disagreements. I'll definitely go again but I think I have enough of deeper involvement for a while.
Roman joined the biggest panel ever, and chairing the philosophy session was fun :)
