Graduate Questionnaire

Laboratory of Language Media

Shinsuke Higuchi
graduated from the Laboratory of Language Media in the 2008 academic year

The main reasons are that I was interested in research of natural language, and there were many international students. It was a relaxed atmosphere, and I learned much English from them.

Q1What did you learn in the laboratory? What do you think is helpful for your current job?

I joined the company just one year ago, so I’m still in training and am hardly doing any actual work. In graduate school, however, I had a lot of useful experience in preparing materials by a deadline and making clear presentations within a limited time. Breaking down the existing problems, analyzing the cause and proposing a solution – these basics are the same both in research and business. I think that my experience during my research life at university will help my future career.

Q2Why did you choose this division and this laboratory?

The main reasons are that I was interested in research of natural language, and there were many international students. It was a relaxed atmosphere, and I learned much English from them.

Q3Your future goal and a message for your juniors

Do many things that you can only do while you are a student. This is advice that is often heard. However, I would rather recommend that you find something to pursue that you can continue even after graduating from school. It may be anything, such as English studies, sports or a hobby. If you have your own world, you will be able to enjoy yourself every day, even if you are swamped with work. Finally, if you have something you really want to do, you are lucky. Please do it. You may not know what you want to do, but you can spend time finding it. It’s the privilege of being a student. Good luck!
